You should start your essay with a brief description of the picture and then discuss the relationship between parents and children in modern society.    Nowadays, there is often a lack of understanding between parents and children. Just as the picture shows, the college program the boy wants to take is about how to get on well with his parents. In modern society, children always complain that their parents are out of date, while parents can’t approve of what their children say and do. Thus, a widening generation gap forges.
   The gap remains wide for many reasons. First of all, many children want to be free to choose their own friends, plan their own futures, spend their own time, and generally run their own life in a more independent way than many parents allow. In addition, young children wish to be understood by their parents, but most parents don’t quite understand their children. Many parents regard it as their responsibility to teach their offspring traditional beliefs and want their children to behave in their ways. Therefore, misunderstanding arises.
   In my opinion, most problems between parents and children could be solved by joint efforts at enhancing mutual understanding. By doing so, the generation gap can get narrower, and may finally disappear.
