    Recently, we often hear complaints about some people being extravagant, and others wasting resources such as electricity and water just because they can afford it. We can see a lot of wasteful behavior everywhere. These phenomena may lead us to think: Why are they happening around us?
    The following factors need to be taken into consideration. First and foremost, our living standard is becoming higher and higher, which enables people to afford much more than they need. What is more, many people think that being thrifty is out of fashion in modern society. As a result, thrift has already escaped people’s notice.
    From my point of view, thrift is still a good virtue. In the first place, natural resources are limited and the unprecedented productive forces don’t mean that we are entitled to an extravagant lifestyle. Furthermore, waste may lead to the degradation of social atmosphere and environmental pollution as well. Hence, it is no doubt that we should never discard the virtue of being thrifty.
