    There tends to be more and more traffic accidents in cities. According to a recent survey conducted by the National Transportation Ministry, Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou have witnessed respectively a sharp increase of 37%, 34% and 41% in traffic accidents from 2010 to 2018.
    To account for this phenomenon, people have come up with various reasons. To begin with, with the rapid development of society, more and more people can afford a private car, which gives rise to more traffic jams and accidents. In addition, an increasing number of drivers do not lay enough emphasis on relevant traffic rules. We have heard too many news reports about the traffic tragedies resulting from the carelessness or drunkenness of the drivers.
    Serious as the problem seems, we can take some measures to deal with it. Drivers should improve their sense of abiding by traffic rules and the government should put limitation on the increase of private cars. Only through joint efforts can traffic accidents be strangled in the cradle.
