    Air is the ocean people breathe. It supplies people with oxygen which is essential for the bodies to live. However, air pollution hovers at unhealthy levels in almost every major city in the world now, threatening people’s ability to breathe and placing lives at risk.
    Air pollution can affect our health in both short term and long term. Examples of short-term effects include irritation to the eyes, nose and throat, and other symptoms such as headaches, and allergic reactions. Long-term health effects can include chronic respiratory disease, lung cancer, and even damage to the brain. Continual exposure to air pollution affects the lungs of growing children and may complicate medical conditions in the elderly.
    To stop the environment from air pollution, the following steps should be taken. Scientific groups should study the damaging effects on plant, animal and human life. Legislative bodies should make laws to control emissions. Educators in schools and universities should teach students about the effects of air pollution. With joint efforts, people will have cleaner air and a clearer sky in the future.
