    As the old saying goes, "optimism is essential to achievement and it is also the foundation of courage and true progress". For one thing, the way you look at life will determine how you feel about everything around you and how well you get along with other people. For another, being optimistic when in the face of difficulties will give you the courage to conquer them and make progress.
