    As can be seen from the table given above, funding sources of Chinese students are quite different from those of American students. Only 50% of the American students’ funding comes from their parents, while Chinese students get 90% . Moreover, Chinese students earn only 5% of their money from part-time jobs and 5% from scholarship, while American students get 35% and 15% respectively.
    There are two main causes for these differences. For one thing, most American parents tend to foster their kids’ sense of independence and self-reliance early in their childhood. However, in China, parents usually care too much for their children and they would economize and stint themselves to support their children. For another, as America is a developed country, it is easier for American students to get part-time jobs, while Chinese students have relatively fewer opportunities.
    Personally, I believe that with economic development in China, more opportunities will be provided for students to take part-time jobs and they will walk out of the tower of ivory and stand on their own feet.
