解析 As a matter of fact, Jane Austen’s novels are all about such trifles as love and marriage, happening in the daily life of some families. This is the reason why many Chinese readers cannot understand why (how) she has enjoyed such a high reputation in the west. But it is not the subject matter that determines whether a novel is profound, or whether it is artistically superior, or deep in thought. Austen’s novels are compared to an olive — the more you chew it, the tastier it will be.
