"It was time for lunch, and all the keepers in the zoo came except Bill. Where is Bill?" they wondered. "And why hasn’t he come to lunch yet?"
Suddenly there came a loud sound from the lion’s house. They ran over to see what was happening, There on the ground lay the lion with his belly (肚子) plump (鼓胀), looking quite unhappy.
The keepers looked at each other for a while, and then nearly at the same moment all of them realized what it meant.
They got a bottle of liquid medicine with which to put the lion to sleep for an operation. And just at that moment the lion’s belly was cut open, Bill immediately jumped out to his feet. He looked quite all right.
After that they sewed up the cut in the lion’s belly. When the power of the medicine was gone, the lion woke up and looked quite happy.
