SUNNYVALE—The Sunnyvale Department of Environment and Health(DEH)is proud to announce its 7th annual environmental essay contest. DEH director Adam Schumacher said the theme of this year’s essay is "How to Save the Planet." The DEH hopes that every area middle school student participates, and the entry deadline is May 2nd.
"We hope sixth, seventh, and eighth grade teachers will encourage their students to enter. The contest is a terrific way to show off creativity and environmental knowledge," Schumacher said. "Everyone who enters will receive a certificate of participation, and prize winners will be announced May 30th at the Natural History Museum."
Prizes will be as follows:
    First prize—$300, plus a new bicycle
    Second prize—$200
    Third & fourth prizes—$100
All prize-winners will also get a free one-year user pass to Sunset National Park.
