The Dionysius Chronicles Wins ADF Prize
Amateur film director Giannina Balducci was awarded the coveted Amateur Documentary Filmmaker(ADF)prize for her movie The Dionysius Chronicles. The prize is presented annually to an amateur film director who shows promise and talent. Balducci’s film explores historical sites and areas related to the ancient stories of Greek teacher and historian Dionysius. Balducci spent two years travelling and filming in various locations in the Mediterranean area and interviewed numerous history scholars and experts.
Balducci was born in Italy and expressed an interest in film since a young age. By the time she was 28, she had already filmed three documentaries. "I am so grateful for this honor and look forward to attending the movie’s premiere on October 23. I hope others will also enjoy the film," said Balducci in a telephone interview.
A panel of six judges selected Balducci as best director among more than 300 entrants. Selection of the recipient was based on directorial technique, originality, editing, sound, and visual appeal. The winners receive a certificate along with a cash prize of $20,000. The ADF prize is awarded by the European Documentary Filmmakers Society.
