A public hearing is scheduled for March 9th at Vail City Hall to address the Merchant Transit proposal to raise train fares as early as April 1 st. Charles LoRocca, Merchant Transit’s executive director, said the fare increase is necessary to cover the company’s operating budget for the coming year. LoRocca stated that despite the rise in revenue created by increased ticket sales, the cost of next year’s train services would not be covered. The fare increase will affect hundreds of commuters who use the company’s trains to travel to Merchant City and Vail every day. Concerned commuters are encouraged to attend the hearing in City Hall Room A at 6 P.M. or post their opinions online at www.merchanttransit.com.
