M: The remote control for this air conditioning system is functioning only at close range, so I think it is therefore not a very practical purchase.
W: Have you peeled off the plastic wrapping around the batteries? Sometimes the signal doesn’t go through if the wrapping is too thick.
M: I haven’t done that yet. Does it really make that much of a difference?
W: Yes, it does. I had the same problem as you, but when I removed the plastic wrapping, I was able to use my remote control from anywhere in the room.
