Introduction
    Following the request to compile a report on staff opinions with regard to training within the company, I have questioned various departments and a cross-section of members of staff and consulted personnel statistics.
Findings
    The majority of opinions given concentrated more on the lack of opportunity after training than the training itself. It was generally expressed that when trained they were like "machinist", or it was not what they had expected, or that the work becomes boring after a while. Individuals complained of day release courses being cut because the company was doing badly.
    The wage structure was generally considered to be inadequate compared to our competi-tors—Forgans and Patterson’s—who offer higher wages. Personnel statistics show that 1/3 of apprentices leave the firm after two years, most express a wish to leave; and about 1/2 go elsewhere when they are qualified, mostly to Forgans.
    However, a surprising 78% of staff say they would not move. These people prefer staying with the company either because they like the friendly atmosphere here or because they feel they would have to work harder elsewhere. Conclusion
    We need to offer qualified workers more opportunity after training.
