In our country, the disadvantaged group refers to people who are disadvantaged in abilities to create and accumulate wealth, and inferior in job competition and having difficulties in daily life. Specifically, the disadvantaged includes farmers waiting for relief, the disabled, laid-off workers, some elderly people, and migrant workers, early retirees from government institutions and some disaster-stricken people.
    The disadvantaged currently faces four major problems-food, housing, medial care and children’s education, of which the latter two problems are the most worrying. Urban people living on unemployment insurance and rural people struggling in poverty cannot afford the doctor’s bill or save enough to pay for their children’s tuitions. All this may threaten our country’s economic development and the social stability. So, these problems call for immediate solution
    To solve these problems, the government should improve the unemployment insurance system, so that all the urban poor can have their basic living standard guaranteed. The government should also increase the input into social security expenditures, providing more subsidies to this special group. What’s more important, the government should offer low-cost or free medical care to the disadvantaged, and establish education assistance funds to help children from poor families through their education. The fundamental solution, however, is to create more job opportunities by initiating re-employment programs. Without any doubt, all the problems are great challenges to both the government and the public. But we must succeed in the cause for our country’s future.
