Emotional Quotient

Whether EQ is really scientific or not, I think we can say that people who get along with other people DO avoid certain big problems in their lives. What do I mean? Well take the case of my daughter. A few years back, her boyfriend was supposed to drop by to watch DVDs. I still don’t know how it happened but the two of them got into a terrible fight about which film to watch. Can you believe it? My daughter told him to get the hell out and never come back. I realized my daughter was not acting like herself.
Fortunately, she realized that too. My daughter thought it all over later and asked herself why she was so easily upset. It turned out to have very little to do with her boyfriend at all. My daughter was just then beginning a teaching job. She said to me that she felt very nervous about standing up in front of so many students every day. So when she came home every day she felt very stressed and sometimes frustrated. That was the reason she yelled at her boyfriend. Soon after that, my daughter apologized and explained everything to her boyfriend. The point is people with insight into emotions are able to avoid problems and create opportunities to change and improve their relationship with others. Someone with low EQ would probably have broken off the relationship and never quite have realized why.
