Announcement from the Department of Overseas Study
The Whittier College Department of Overseas Study is pleased to make the following announcement. We have just established and opened a student information desk. The desk, located in our office in Main Hall #5, will offer information about all overseas study programs open to Whittier students. In addition, it will maintain files offering student feedback about these programs. In this way, students can both be better informed about foreign study options as well as be aware of previous students’ experiences with these programs. This should make for more effective and rewarding study abroad for our students. Please drop by our office from 9:00-5:00 M-F for complete details.
Now hear a conversation between two students.
Question: The man expresses his opinion toward the information desk of the overseas study program. State his opinion and explain the reasons he gives for holding that opinion.
W: Hi Ed, what’s up?
M: I’m just going over to the Overseas Study Department. They opened up a new information desk last week.
W: Yeah, I heard something about that, but didn’t get any details. What do they do there exactly?
M: I hear they have information about all the foreign study programs each department offers. That way, if you want to study abroad, you don’t have to go running to every department on campus. That saves time, effort, and confusion.
W: Yeah, I can see how it’s more efficient.
M: And besides that, the office will be keeping files on what other students have to say about their experience abroad. You know, sometimes there’s a big difference between what we think a country is like and what’s really going on.
W: For sure. On the news, South Africa is shown as a happy, egalitarian country now. But three of the students on the Anthropology trip last year were robbed, and one was shot!
M: Exactly. This way we’ll get real first hand information about the countries, the professors, the classes, everything!
W: Great, I’m coming with you.
