A recent survey of 2,000 college students asked about their attitudes towards phone calls and text-messaging (also known as Short Message Service) and found the students’ main goal was to pass along information in as little time, with as little small talk, as possible. "What they like most about their mobile devices is that they can reach other people," says Naomi Baron, a professor of linguistics at American University in Washington, D.C., who conducted the survey. "What they like least is that other people can reach them." How far do you agree with Professor Baron? In the first part of your essay you should state clearly your main argument, and in the second part you should support your argument with appropriate details. In the last part you should bring what you have written to a natural conclusion or make a summary. You should supply an appropriate title for you essay.
Marks will be awarded for content, organization, grammar and appropriateness. Failure to follow the above instructions may result in a loss of marks.

Mobile Phone, an Annoying Beloved Invention to College Students
As a modern device of communication, mobile phone is now prevailing at most colleges and universities. According to a recent survey of 2000 college students, the reason is that it enables them to make small talks in the least time. Naomi Baron, conductor of the survey, concludes, "What they like most about their mobile devices is that they can reach other people, what they like least is that other people can reach them." I totally agree with Professor Baron
On the one hand, mobile phone brings college students great convenience. As acknowledged, learning is no longer the sole part of a four-year college life. Students are supposed to develop not only the ability of learning, but also the ability of socializing, which needs them to keep in touch with others at all times. The advent of mobile phone perfectly meets their needs. By sending messages or making short conversations, students can extend kind regards, share secret voice, pass along information, and even seek for help in just a few minutes. Mobile phone can also build an invisible bridge between students and their parents, who often have little chance to see their kids because of the long distance between home and school. A majority of parents admit that a simple and intimate phone call from their children on holidays can make them feel happy for several days.
On the other hand, however, mobile phone also causes students much trouble. Suppose you were on a trip after a long tiring exam, how would you feel if one of your professors called, saying that he needed you right away? Or imagine this, you hate a boy very much, but he keeps calling you all day long to invite you for a date. How’s that? Almost all cell phone users have the experience of being bothered by others. They even have the impulse of turning the phone off, but few can afford to do that because you never know what you may miss.
Despite the trouble caused by mobile phone, I think the merits of cell phone outweigh its demerits. Nothing can satisfy people in all ways. After all, mobile phone has made our life much easier. If we are going to take advantage of something, we have to accept the disadvantages that come along with it.
