答案                 Legislation on SNS Should Be Introduced
    Along with the popularization of the Internet, the social network is playing a more and more important role in people’s life both at home and abroad, such as Microblog, Twitter, Facebook, etc. Microblog, a social networking app in China, has been growing rapidly in recent years, dwarfing many other forms of media that came into being three or four years ago. Anybody in the SNS world could keep abreast of what is happening elsewhere in the world and keep in deep touch with people around. But rumors, mudslinging and defamation come along with the freedom of people’s tweets. In terms of this, I hold that related laws and regulations should be made to change this situation.
    As to mudslinging, I suggest that more effective and stricter rules be made that require microbloggers to register their real names to better safeguard all netizens’ privacy and at the same time related websites should be held accountable in case they had netizens’ information publicized. At present, the behavior of stealing personal information through the network is not surprising any more. Privacy issues have often put Internet companies under the spotlight. For that reason, I contend that the government is supposed to introduce legislation to safeguard people’s freedom of speech and protect people’s personal information security.
    As to rumors and defamation, I believe that there should be legislation on SNS rumor-spreading and mischievous gossip. With millions of people sharing news and views every day through microblogs, it is no surprise that rumors and gossip spread so quickly. People find it difficult to distinguish between the truth and unfounded rumors in SNS, where a large amount of information without certification is easily spread across a popular network, such as the "Shanxi earthquake" and "Louis Cha’s death". Another case in point is that after appearing on a dating show on Shanghai-based Dragon TV, a guest said her microblog inbox was filled with letters lashing out at her every day, because of her enthusiasm for Japanese culture and a failed marriage. She spent a whole night arguing with one netizen, feeling tired and puzzled. Some netizens are just relentless in their resentment of her. However, our country’s legislation in these aspects is far from being sound enough. Most of the rumor spreaders and detractors have not received due punishment yet. From the above, we can see that relevant legal provisions to curb this situation should be introduced.
    As the saying goes, nothing can be accomplished without norms or standards. As a new thing, the social network need the restriction of law. Although there are some laws relevant to the Internet, I do hope that the government could introduce more related laws specific to SNS as soon as possible to ensure a secure and harmonious social network environment.
