    In recent years, Chinese people are racked with continuously emerging food security problems.
    According to a recent survey, it is the food security that tops the concerns of people. Today citizens are becoming more and more cautious in eating and drinking for fear that they might be poisoned by toxic chemicals. The issue of food security is a huge matter concerning people’s health and a nation’s development. Therefore, faced with this urgent situation, all citizens, various organizations and institutions should work together with governments at all levels to solve this problem. We need to take actions immediately.
    To begin with, in order to hold food production within bounds, our central government should strengthen food security regulations. The lack of relevant and strict regulations will give a chance to unscrupulous manufacturers. Although the country began regulating food security long time ago, it still has not established a legal system which is efficient in ensuring food safety. To eliminate unsafe food products. the government must work out specific laws and regulations to punish those involved with more serious fines and tougher measures.
    Besides, governments at all levels should strengthen their inspection over the enforcement of those regulations. In the past, we emphasized lawmaking too much and neglected the supervision over law enforcement. The result has turned out to be that there are laws to abide by, but due to the lack of strict law enforcement, those manufacturers who break the law are not punished accordingly. Laws have become a castle in the air without strict supervision over their enforcement. No wonder so many companies dare defy the law!
    At last, we should bring the role of the mass media into full play. Food security problem concerns people from all walks of life and the future of our country, so we need to appeal to all citizens, organizations and institutions to collaborate on this long and tough struggle. Among them, we should pay special attention to the function of mass media. Governments at all levels can make full use of mass media to disseminate advanced knowledge of food security. And they can also encourage the press to expose to the public those illegal activities and award people who report illegal activities to the government in the first place to stimulate their initiative in supervising manufacturers.
    Needless to say, there is a long way to go for China’s food security. Maybe it will take us a fairly long time to tackle this problem, but it isn’t invincible. Anyway, we have seen food security improvements under way in our country. What we should do is just to make joint efforts and never give up.
