Is Film Giving Way to TV?
It was a familiar scene that people pour into cinemas and wait anxiously for the beginning of a movie in the 1980s. Nowadays, however, film boom seems to have gone with the wind. For most of the cinemas, more than half of the seats are empty for most of the films. It can be argued that film is giving way to TV.
One of the reasons that film is losing its audience is that most of the people turn to TV as their chief entertainment. Compared with watching film in the cinema, watching TV at home is a more convenient and comfortable way of relaxation. People just seat themselves at the cozy living room, chatting with others, eating or drinking a little, while keeping an eye on TV. Moreover, TV provides a large variety of programs while the audience are at ease to make their own choice. Therefore, most of the average families have at least one TV set at home and some even have more than one so that the family member won’t have to argue about the choice of channels.
The sharply decreasing number of film audience shows that film is giving way to TV. However, there are still some film fans For them, only the cinema can offer an atmosphere where they can fully appreciate the art of film.
