Medical researchers have accused the manufacturers of baby milk formula of violating an international marketing code by giving free samples and gifts to health workers to promote their products in poor African countries. In a report published in the British Medical Journal, researchers in Africa accused companies of having ignored the code in countries such as Togo and Burkina Faso. The researchers found that the code had been violated by 40 products, many made by national and international manufacturers like Danone and Nestle.
