    China has been focusing its development strategy on economic construction for years, but the development has brought some serious problems. In the pursuit of the economic benefits, environment is sacrificed at the same time. Last year, a series of natural disasters claimed hundreds of lives and caused huge economic loss. These disasters remind us it is high time reflected our environmental concept, and in my opinion, environment should be treated as important as economy.
    When we believe that economic growth should be the nation’s top priority, we often neglect environment in real practice. For instance, there were pieces of news last year about heavy rain causing flood and landslides making thousands homeless. Scientists told us later that the rain was just a minor cause. It was the deforestation that mainly caused the erosion and then gave rise to the disastrous consequences. Soil erosion is just a small part of the environmental degradation. How about the poisoned lakes, the polluted air, more and more frequent sandstorms and long-lasting drought? These environmental disasters are threatening our health and even our lives all the time, so we must keep in mind that nowadays environmental protection and economic development should be stressed equally.
    Only when we realize the interdependent relationship between economic construction and environmental protection, could the further deterioration of environment be prevented and can we enjoy the beautiful nature as well as economic benefits.
