    Volunteer work is gaining its popularity among university students. According to a survey, as many as 67% of students in Guangdong universities have worked voluntarily. I salute the efforts made by these students and I think we should encourage college students to do volunteer work.
    First of all, through volunteer work, students would be more involved in the community. We sometimes hear blames about the indifference of university students and about the distance they keep from the local community. If students do volunteer work, such as visiting senior’s home, sending food to homeless people, and raising fund for orphans, they would feel the pulse of the community and be more integrative. Secondly, volunteer work enhances the communication skills. In order to help those in need, volunteers must listen to people’s problems. Besides, in order to gain more help from the larger community, volunteers must convince other people the significance of their help or donation. All these require volunteers to be a good listener and a great speaker. That is why the more volunteer work students do, the better communicators they will be.
    In conclusion, volunteer work is beneficial to university students, because it will bring them close to the local neighborhood and improve their communication skills.
