M: Hi, Lisa. I’d like to ask you a question. How many job interviews have you had?
W: Well, Tom. That’s difficult. At least ten.
M: Ten. That’s quite a few. And do you enjoy going to job interviews?
W: I absolutely adore them. No, I’m joking. Who does? Nobody does.
M: Well, for me, interviews are torture. I hate being grilled by a panel of people. I know I can do the job, but I hate having to convince them.
W: Yes, I agree. I hate answering questions like “Why do you want this job?” or “Where do you see yourself in five years time?”
M: Yeah, that’s a tricky one to answer. But some interviewers even go a bit further and ask the interviewees to do some inappropriate things.
W: You mean they will ask you to do things that are not really relevant to the job?
M: Yes, I was asked to do a dance as part of my interview last year.
W: Well, maybe the position was for a dancer or a children’s entertainer?
M: No. It was actually for a job as a sales assistant in an electronic shop. You know, someone who works on the shop floor, giving advice to customers about what to buy. There is no dancing involved.
W: Then what did you do? How did you feel about doing a dance?
M: I wanted the job. So the idea was just to keep smiling and go for it. On the surface, I had to look positive. I was smiling. I was laughing along with it. But inside, I felt degraded and humiliated, especially.
W: Oh, poor you.
M: So, that’s how I felt on the inside. But I really wanted the job. So I put on a brave face. I even laughed. But later on, I did complain. And I got an apology.
W: Well, some experts say there are now too many candidates chasing too few jobs. So companies are trying non-traditional ways of recruiting people to see who stands out.
M: Well, in any job interview, it’s good to leave a lasting impression, which means to get noticed and make people remember you. I suppose doing a dance is a good way of breaking the ice. But being asked to do something outside your comfort zone also seems a bit unfair to me.
W: Yeah. But I guess if you really want the job, you’d have to do anything.
M: Well, almost.
W: So do I.
Questions 1 to 5 are based on Conversation One.
1. Has the woman had any interviews before?
2. How do the man and the woman feel about job interviews?
3. Which job did the man apply for when he was asked to dance?
4. How did the man feel about doing a dance?
5. Why do companies use non-traditional methods in job interviews?
选项
A、Never.
B、Just a few.
C、Quite a few.
D、Few.
答案
C
