But in poor countries, combinations have been expensive and nevirapine has often been used alone, since studies have shown that a single dose can cut the transmission rate in half.

A 3-day international conference on fighting the African trade in child labor has ended in Ivory Coast. Discussions centered on developing international cooperation to stop the trade. The United Nations estimates that about 200,000 children were forced into child labor in the past year in Africa. The UN says the problem could be getting worse.
