    While reading, college students face two choices: reading extensively or reading intensively on their majors. It is really a hard choice for our students, because both ways of reading are important in learning. However, as for an undergraduate student, I think it is more important to read extensively.
    To start with, I stress the importance of reading extensively because of the fact that reading extensively is overlooked by many college students. Nowadays, ninny college students are so deeply buried in the textbooks of their majors that they do not even touch other books. They are reading for their majors, but not for knowledge. In the long run, they know nothing but majors. This is harmful for them to become a fully developed talent in the future. Secondly, I emphasize the importance of reading extensively because it is the fundamental step to further the major of an undergraduate student. Reading extensively can provide supporting knowledge for a student’s major. It is hard to imagine that a student without the basic knowledge of mathematics will ever become a physicist or a chemist.
    To become a full-developed talent and to study one’s major well, an undergraduate student should attach enough importance to reading extensively.
