   There is a saying that there are no two leaves that are the same. This is really true when it comes to social customs in different countries. If we are not aware of their differences, misunderstanding may arise. Take the differences between Americans and Chinese in topics of conversation.
   In China, personal income is a favorite topic. People talk about income openly. They may even ask others directly about their income. But in America, income is a very private topic. Public discussion of it can hardly be accepted. And also, for Chinese, asking others about their age is very popular. From their viewpoint, one’s age is rented to his experience and knowledge, and is something to be proud of. But Americans regard age as a highly personal secret and try their best to avoid mentioning it. Asking about the age of others in the public is considered a rude activity.
   Such differences require us to have more respect for social customs in different cultures and act properly. Only in this way can we understand each other better and promote the friendship between people of different countries.
