Language competence and language performance are completely different.
Competence is an ability to recognize and understand sentences, include【S1】______
summarizing the language materials and deducing them in the language rules and【S2】______
regular sentences. Language refers to the ability of the speakers’ and listeners’
internal knowledge. Competence is the speakers’ underlying linguistic
knowledge and the abstract master to language system. Performance is just the
actual behavior of competence. Although performance derived from【S3】______
competence, it’s not equal to competence. Performance is unique and diverse,
but always dependent on the environment. Competence is an abstract concept【S4】______
that is full of details and unable to confirm. They are totally two fundamentally【S5】______
different phenomena. To attach importance to language is to attach to the most
basic things, namely language competence.
Language competence and language performance are interdependent on and【S6】______
complementary to each other.
On the one hand, language competence is the premise of language
performance. Competence is to performance which composer’s skills are to【S7】______
composing or improvising music. Without solid language skills cannot gain a
good ability of language use.
On the other hand, to improve an ability of language performance can【S8】______
enhance and consolidate the level of language competence. Performance is
reflected in the competence, since language ability is not equal to have the【S9】______
ability to use the language. Performance can neither be replaced nor improved in
