     Being realistic, you’ll be hard put to define what it is you’re learning and be forced to accept that there are limitations on what you can say, how you can express yourself, what you can understand and when your reactions are accepted as appropriate. You’ll lack precision in what you say, fail to recognize intended double meanings and generally be privileged to be subject to jokes, and all the follies of human interaction. There’s just no point in hiding away in your embarrassment when that embarrassment is itself arising in a situation which helps you learn.  Words change meaning, sometimes with alarming speed, so that yesterday’s common use meaning becomes virtually lost overnight as a new usage appears. Where you experience communicating in a language as a challenge, people who use it with ease may deride you, have jokes at your expense and appear unwilling to allow for your limitations.
