    As the Chinese saying goes, "Food is the first necessity of the people". However, with the further development of China’s urbanization and market economy, food safety issues such as Sanlu milk powder, illegal cooking oil and dyed steamed buns are increasingly posing a threat to our health. This situation will inevitably worsen unless some actions are taken to stop it.
    To begin with, we should crack down severely on ’food safety crimes’. Only by defining the behavior of adding prohibited items into food as a crime and treating these cases with zero tolerance and heavy punishment, can we resolve this issue effectively. Secondly, there should be clear responsibilities at each link of the complete food supply chain. We should build up awareness of the significance of ensuring food safety in all walks of society. Governments, businesses and individuals are all supposed to supervise and expose illegal food process behaviors in a proactive, responsible and determined way.
    It is universally acknowledged that we must take the food safety issue seriously and tackle it properly. Without our concerted effort to meet the challenge of food safety, we cannot rest assured when eating, cannot regain the morality and harmony of our society, and cannot boost our market economy healthily and sustainably.
