    Empathy makes you someone else. Empathy is meant to take you out of yourself so that for a moment, or longer, you become another person. You cannot think your thoughts while you’re being empathic. You cannot be yourself and, at the same time, think of someone else. That is nothing but sympathy.
    Sympathy is commendable, but it is not empathy. Many think they are being empathic when they’re actually being sympathetic. Sympathy comes naturally and more impulsively, and it can also be experienced in the sense of thinking how you would feel in the other person’s place.
