There is a TV report that a paralyzed twenty-year-old boy who has been under his mother’s care for years says he wants to die in peace rather than suffer any more.
Do you think people have the right to end their lives in this situation?
Write a composition of about 200 words on the topic:
Should Euthanasia Be Permitted?
You are to write in three parts.
In the first part, state specifically what your opinion is.
In the second part, support your opinion with appropriate details.
In the last part, bring what you have written to a natural conclusion or a summary.

Should Euthanasia Be Permitted?
When asked about whether euthanasia should be permitted or not for the hopelessly sick people, different people hold different views. Some people take it for granted that nobody is entitled to end others’ lives under whatever circumstances. However, others hold that euthanasia benefits both the patients and their families. As far as I’m concerned, I agree with the latter.
On the one hand, many terminal patients lose their courage to live for their remaining years because they can no longer endure the tremendous pains caused by diseases and they would choose to suicide if they are not allowed to perform euthanasia. So it is better to permit them to spend their last minute of life calmly than to witness their self-destruction. On the other hand, euthanasia can be a relief to the patients’ families. More often than not, family members not only bear the burden of looking after the patients but also partake of their anguish, therefore life is harder for the family members than any onlookers could imagine.
Therefore, a natural conclusion can be drawn that euthanasia can be a blessing in disguise to the seriously ill people and their families. So the purpose of euthanasia lies not so much as in depriving the patients’ right to life as in satisfying their wish of dying nobly and peacefully.
