答案
Ambition
Ambition is the desire and the strong drive for success. It can be said with certainty that ambition plays a very important role in our lives and in the long history of mankind.
For individuals, ambition stimulates us to work harder to pursue what we want. Without ambition, laid-off workers would probably sit back and live on allowance, instead of trying their best to make a living on their own. Ambition sparks our intelligence and creativity. Without ambition, I cannot imagine how those scientists and inventors could overcome so many difficulties. Have a look at those events that changed the history of mankind. How many of them were based on people’s ambitions? If Christopher Columbus hadn’t had the ambition to find a new way to come to China, there would be no America. If Bill Gates hadn’t had the ambition to invent the first PC in the world, there would be no Microsoft today. If Steve Jobs hadn’t had the ambition to combine art with technology, there would be no Apple and smart phones.
But we cannot deny that sometimes ambition does have unexpected and even evil outcomes. If an ambitious person is selfish and irresponsible and even willing to fulfill his or her ambitions by employing whatever means necessary, their satisfaction will come hand in hand with destruction.
In a word, ambition makes people onward and upward in spite of the unhappiness it may generate. Ambition is no less than love—sometimes it hurts, but you cannot deny its greatness and mightiness.
