    With the rapid development of the internet, it has become a popular means of communication throughout the world. Because of its easy access and speediness in transmitting messages, it is taking the place of traditional means of communication. Many people, especially the young, are chatting online; and more and more young people are making friends on the internet. Some of them even fall in love with each other and begin to date online. Those who are open-minded have a favorable attitude toward this online behavior. They think that this new type of friendship and romance are acceptable and our traditional moral values should adapt to the change of times and the advance of technology. They argue that what the young are doing in this online community are not necessarily all bad and this romantic online love may sometimes end up in happy marriage.
    However, some people especially the mid-age and the old, have a negative attitude toward this online friendship and love. They argue that this kind of thing is against our traditional moral standards and this online love can never be true love and it can even be cheating. Their doubt is: how can people who have never seen each other be friends? How can one love or even marry another whom he or she has never met? And what if those who are dating online offer false information of themselves?
    But I think we can’t jump at any conclusions. It may be still early to decide whether love online is good or bad. I insist that we should be more open-minded and more tolerant of new things. Let those who date and love online decide for themselves. Through trials and errors they will be able to form correct judgements and learn good lessons.
