    According to the latest statistics released by the Ministry of Education, less and less students are taking the college entrance examinations, which has caused wide public concern.
    There are several reasons accounting for the decrease in the number of students entering colleges. Firstly, the birthrate in our country has been cutting down gradually since it is advocated in China that a couple only has one child, which in turn reduces the number of students. Secondly, it is commonly recognized that what the college students have learned can hardly meet the demand of the job market after graduation. So instead of going to colleges, some students choose to get a job after graduating from the high school. Last but not least, the fierce competition in the job market discourages many graduates from finding a suitable job even if they get a college degree.
    In my opinion, knowledge shouldn’t be judged by diploma. If students can get some practical skills and knowledge through hard work and dedication, entering college is not a must.
