W: So Todd, we’re talking about the World Cup bidding process and the campaign. Most people reckon upon America, but America lost to Qatar. How do you feel about that?
M: Yeah,(9)it was a bit tough. The US actually was a really good candidate because it has almost everything for the matches, so I was quite surprised that it didn’t get it. But then after reading something about Qatar, I understand.
W: So in your opinion, what kind of advantages does Qatar have? Do you think it deserves it?
M:(10)It has really good pitches and stadiums. Qatar is relatively small, so people won’t have to travel a lot from one stadium to another, so I think that’s kind of benefit.
W: Right. That really makes sense. But do you have some other things to comment?
M: Well, to be honest, what really surprised me was that Australia didn’t get it.(11)I thought Australia was the best choice.
W: Yeah, I was surprised at that as well. But you know this is the bidding, hard to predict.
M: So if it was the US, Qatar and Australia, who would have you chosen?
W: I would have chosen Australia, too.(12)They don’t have a very good transportation network because it’s so large and the cities are so far away from each other. If it could get this chance, that would be really helpful to improve the transport system of Australia.
M: Yeah, I agree. Different countries have their own strong points but usually the most suitable is the luckiest one.
9. What does the man think of the bidding process of the World Cup?
