W: Hi.
M: Hi, I’m going door to door tonight to tell people about the Student Action Coalition. Do you have a few minutes?
W: (9) Sure. You know, I think I read something in the newspaper last week.(对话中女士提到了她是在上周的一份报纸的最后一版的一篇文章得知学生联合行动会的。)
M: Yeah. There was an article about us in the last issue. (10) See, we’re trying to protect and conserve some of the open spaces on campus(学生联合行动会的目的是要保护学校校园中的开放的自然资源。)
W: That’s right. You and your group are opposing the extension of the parking lot next to Swain Hall, right?
M: That’s us. We just feel that it’s important to save some of the natural beauty of the campus, like over by Swain. Some of those trees are hundreds of years old.
W: It is a pretty spot. My friends and I’ve had picnics over there by the creek.
M: Then you’ll understand how we feel. We’re organizing a rally on Thursday afternoon to get the administration to reconsider the parking lot plan.
W: ( 11) Well, I have a class on Thursday afternoon.( 文中提到周四下午会有一个请愿会邀请女士参加,而女士正好有课。)
M: But, maybe you can sign this petition. We’re going to submit it to the administration to demonstrate how the students feel about this.
W: Sure. (12) Let me get a pen and I’ll sign it.( 女士提到虽然不能参加请愿会,但是会在请愿书上签字。)
M: I have a pen right here. And let me leave you this pamphlet about the Student Action Coalition. Maybe you can come to some of our meetings. We get together once a month.
W: Yeah, I’d like to know more about your group. Let me know when the next meeting is and I’ll try to be there.
