    In China, since 1978 when the reform and opening-up policy was adopted, thousands of students have been swarming into foreign countries to further their study. Why is it becoming so trendy?
    Obviously, there are many advantages of studying abroad. To begin with, going abroad enables students to gain access to advanced teaching resources in many elite universities. In addition, studying abroad can broaden students’ horizons as well as put them in real touch with different cultures. Furthermore, living and studying abroad by themselves can make students become more independent.
    However, I don’t think it is a risk-free investment. In recent days, we often find that a fairly large number of students have returned home, with nothing in hand. What they did abroad is nothing but waste their parents’ hard-earned money. In this sense, how can we say it’s worthwhile to go abroad? Thus, I contend that we should have second thoughts on studying abroad.
