    The pollution of environment has been a hot potato for many countries. And it is also true in China. Although the government has taken measures to address the problem, and people are becoming increasingly envi-ronment-conscious, thesituation is still deteriorating.
Each year factories and enterprises are responsible for millions of tons of wastes discharged into the air and water.      Consequently, some rivers and lakes have been made fishless; and "red tide" has become an epidemic along the beaches. Soil erosion caused by misuse of the land comes to thousands of square kilometers. And decades of deforestation to expand farmland have brought down the trees, making drought worse and pushing the desert even closer.
    To clean up the environment, it’s necessary to monitor industry. On the one hand, factories should find out new ways to reuse waste and convert it into usual materials. On the other hand, water discharge and smoke emission must meet the standard set by the government. Moreover, more investment should be made in the "green projects", such as planting trees and grass, reforesting the land and so on. To sum up, while furthering economic development, we must not ignore environment protection.
