Teaching procedures
Step 1:Warming-up
1.Greet students by asking“How’s life with you?”.
2.Invite them to listen to the song of Lemon Tree.And ask students to pay attention to lyrics.
I’m sitting here in the boring room
It’s just another rainy Sunday afternoon
I’m wasting my time I’ve got nothing to do
I’m hanging around,I’m waiting for you
Ask students to find out the verb form used in the lyrics.And then lead to the topic:V-ing form.
Step 2:Presentation
1.I will read the passage for students and they will answer the following questions:
①What does he/she do on Tuesday and Thursday nights?
②What does he/she do on weekend?
Invite students to check their answers:studying French,visit nice,quiet places,go walking.
2.Guide students to read the passage again to focus on the underlined words and try to find the function of this structure.If necessary,provide them with more examples,for example,Reading books is my routine of every night.I like to go swimming next weekend.Then invite some students to share their ideas.Following their observation,the teacher will conclude the key points and make some supplements.A gerund is a noun made from a verb by adding“-ing”.The gerund in“studying French”and“reading books”acts as the subject of sentences,while the gerund in the phrase“go walking”and“go swimming”is used as the object of the verb“go”.A gerund is used as the subject,the predicative,or the object of a sentence.)
Step 3:Practice
1.Fill in the blanks:
Ask students to fill in the blanks using the right form of verbs.

③He enjoys_____.(not work)
④Her favorite hobby is_____.(read)
2.Sentence master
Give students 5 minutes to come up with 5 verbs and make sentences using the gerund form of these words.
Step 4:Production
Have students imagine they gonna have a speech competition about lifestyles.Ask them to have a discussion about their lifestyles in groups of four,encouraging them to collect materials to support their ideas and convince others.Try to use the gerund form as much as possible in their speeches,so much the better.Time is limited to 5 minutes.Later,invite some groups to share their lifestyles.
Step 5:Summary and Homework
Summary:Ask a student to wrap up the form and usage of a gerund.
Homework:Ask students to preview the other usage of the-ing form.
