Well, I do have some stories to share. It was about my university subject. Time went back to the days when I was preparing for my college entrance examination.
My whole family was stuck by which subject to choose. My parents recommended me to pick up economy-related major. Their reasons were that economy was the most desirable major at that time. By choosing such kind of subject, it meant that you got the ticket to a decent job after graduation. However, my preference was literature. I could spend all days reading fictions and novels, indulged in those beautiful and incredible words. The enjoyment I found in literature outran every other subject. Economy could bring me no fun but boredom.
Few months before the exam rolled out, I brought up my guts to discuss this decision with my parents. At first, they couldn’t accept my decision, because they didn’t think I was mature enough to make such an important decision. Besides, they held that literature couldn’t guarantee a satisfactory job and was useless to our society. After all, this decision was so critical to affect my whole life that it should not be made purely based on interests and intuition.
Numerous debates broke out in the family before the final decision was made. No matter how I tried to show them my enthusiasm and devotion towards literature, my parents insisted that they were doing the right thing. In the end I had to give in and became a student of economy studies. At the beginning I was devastated, but as I look back on now, this decision had really changed me and shaped me the person I am now. Economy studies provide me with logical thinking and analytic skills. It compensates the sentimental side of my personality and helps me become a more sensible person. Years gone by, I still have my passion for literature, but at the same time I know it better how to manage my life in a realistic manner.
