答案     Nowadays people are living longer. At the beginning of the 20th century, the average life expectancy of the people in the world was about 45. By the end of the 20th century, it had become about 70. Among the reasons why people now are living longer are better diet, modern medicine and stability of society and economy.
    Most people in the world now have a better diet. We not only pay attention to our quantity of food, but also quality. For example, junk food is no longer what we want. We pursue nutritious, healthy and delicious food, such as bread, milk, fresh meat, vegetables and fruits that contain starch, protein and vitamin. Food security is also a hot topic in our everyday life. Only clean and safe canned food can be put on the shelves of a supermarket.
    In addition, modern medicine has played an important role in prolonging people’s lives. In the past, some diseases, such as smallpox, chicken pox, diphtheria and typhoid that could cause people deaths can be prevented now with the help of inoculations and vaccines. Other diseases, though they still await breakthroughs, like tuberculosis, hepatitis and cancer that could not be diagnosed are being recognized more than ever before after the invention of various kinds of medical equipment. Meanwhile, newly developed medications have also given people a helping hand.
    Furthermore, stability of society and economy makes people live longer. People living in a prosperous economy and stable society do not have to worry about their employment and security as people living in a poor and unstable environment do. Besides, they have less fears, worries and anxieties. In fact, in a war-stricken region or country such as Afghanistan and Iraq, life span of humans is much shortened because many soldiers and innocent people were killed in wars. Research shows that a happy mental state is good for a person’s health.
    Although there are other reasons contributing to people’s longer life expectancy, such as good habits and frequent exercises, yet in my opinion, better diet, modern medicine and stability of society and economy are the main ones that amalgamate to lengthen the longevity of humans.
