The first recognized Human Flesh Search dated back to March 2006, when netizens on Tianya Club collaborated and successfully identified an Internet celebrity named "Poison" to be a high-level government official. Ever since then, the Human Flesh Search was repeatedly deployed. Some people think it is a powerful way to acquire information usually difficult or impossible to find by other conventional means. Others hold that it might violate people’s privacy. What is your view on this? Write an essay of about 400 words.

Human Flesh Search Should Be Used with Caution
Internet users once believed in privacy on the Internet, saying that no one could know whether it was a dog or not who was chatting with you at the other terminal. However, it’s no longer the case. With the human flesh search, it’s possible now to trace an online ID to the person in the real world. The search is no doubt effective, but in my opinion it must be used with caution, for it indeed violates people’s privacy, and it can also be misleading and dangerous.
First, the human flesh search violates one’s privacy, and thus the means it employs will certainly break the law. The typical "human flesh search" goes like this: At first, some private information, usually a picture, of the person(human flesh)being searched is posted on the Internet for others to identify in the real world. Then when the person is identified, more information about him or her is revealed, including the name, whereabouts, more pictures, and contact means. This information, illegally acquired, published and spread, greatly violates the right of privacy of the person searched. When thousands of netizens participate in the searching process, there will be no privacy left in his or her life.
Second, the human flesh search can be misleading. It may start with a righteous mind and is meant to do justice, but when one’s private information is spread without control through the Internet, the nature of the search could change, and the information could be used for illegal purposes. Some crazy netizens would use the information to threaten the person and his or her family. They send text messages, call their private phones, or even put up banners on the family’s house to protest against the searched person. The search thus becomes a weapon for personal harassment and attacks. It is then neither a help to solve the issue nor a method to do justice. It is only an outlet of collective psychological violence.
Finally, the outcome of the human flesh search can be tragic. The person being searched may have done something unusual or immoral, but there is no reason for him or her to be humiliated by thousands of people on the Internet. In some cases, so much private information is publicized that the person being searched is under great pressure. Both his or her normal work and life are completely ruined.
Although in some cases the human flesh search has brought about favorable results of the issue concerned, I still hold that however well-meant it may be, it must be used with great caution. We should always guard against its potential side-effects.
