    It is reported that homeschooling is on the rise today in China, as parents are becoming increasingly concerned about the teaching style and quality of public education. However, some people frown their eyes upon homeschooling. As for me, the disadvantages of homeschooling overweigh its advantages.
    First of all, homeschooling calls for professional knowledge. Some parents assume that their own high education can ensure their children of perfect homeschooling. According to educationists, a good teacher should not only have a deep understanding of a certain field but also know how to put teaching theory into use. Thus, not all parents are qualified enough to give children good education by themselves. If a mother is an English major, it only means she has a profound knowledge of that language, but when it conies to teaching English, she may get lost.
    Besides, homeschooling may deprive children of the opportunity to learn interpersonal skills. At school, children can learn and play with their peers, which renders the opportunity to learn how to get along with others. By contrast, homeschooling, which confines children within a house, may push them to focus on study only, overlooking what is going on in the outside world. It is reported recently that through homeschooling, the son of a professor got a high mark in the university entrance examination, but when he stepped into the university and began his college life, he found it rather difficult to get along with his roommates, leading to frequent disputes and his dismissal by the university. Therefore, children can not have a well-rounded development without formal education.
    Finally, it is understandable for parents to worry about the teaching style and quality of public education, since formal education now centers around the goal of passing exams by training students’ skills in getting high scores, ignoring the cultivation of other abilities. Nevertheless, it does not mean homeschooling can solve the problem of public education all at once. The most effective way to prevent public education from going to the extreme of training examination experts is to make changes about the whole education system. Only by doing so can the problems of public education be solved once for all.
    In short, the advantages of homeschooling are overshadowed by its disadvantages. Faced with the problems of public education, we shall not avoid them but pluck up the courage to think up ways to uproot them.
