My Viewpoint on College Students Job Hunting
Faced with great difficulties in landing a job, many college students give up ordinary jobs, or jobs not so menial, like brick-movers. However, some people do not think it is worth giving up a good job for a decent life. In my opinion, it is perfectly alright for college graduates to choose any job since it is time to change the mentality from "doing the job you love" to "loving the job you do".
First things first, there is no hierarchy between jobs. For most of the public, jobs relying on mental activity are more advanced than those calling for physical work. The point that has to be made here is that mental work and physical work are just two kinds of jobs done in different manners. It does not make any sense to assume one is better than the other. Take a building for example. The final erection of a building is the fruit of many processes, from designing to construction. If one insists that the job of an architect is more important than that of a construction worker, then he or she simply neglects the fact that without construction workers, what we can see is nothing but a draft on the paper.
In addition, every job contains something that college students need. Some students, especially those from prestigious universities, think highly of themselves, and believe they were born to make great changes to the world. Thus, in the course of job hunting, these students only focus on jobs that they think match their high education, overlooking the basic skills that they ought to master but in fact they do not. For instance, some students majoring in business management make their minds to be an entrepreneur upon graduation. However, it is often the case that only when they have encountered one failure after another could they realize the significance of being a salesman first.
Last but not least, faced with the reality, that is, the increasing difficulty in landing a job, it is important to learn to be flexible in choosing a job. Everyone can do more than one kind of job, so why hold on to the job that has already become others’? College graduates should not focus on jobs that are most suitable or most interesting; instead, they should look for more opportunities by plucking their courage to try something else which may bring them surprise.
To put it into a nutshell, when looking for a job, college graduates have to bear in mind that every job can make a great man, so say goodbye to the era of doing jobs you love and be ready to love any job you do.
