    Marie: I actually find nothing wrong with this system. It’s true that these celebrities just need their names to get what others have to work hard to attain to enter the university, and it seems unfair. However, if we look at it in this way: once a star successfully debut and has his/her name known, isn’t that recognition of his/her talent? So if a university can admit a student with excellent records, why can’t they admit a star—whose talent has been recognized by the community? I think the question is not " Is it fair or unfair to admit celebrities into universities?" but "How should the system work to preserve the fairness?" I think they should have stricter conditions (like the singers must have an award).
    Alfie: First of all, I think the criteria are too high, and most celebrities can’t meet them. I understand why one would be angered by celebrities having it easy, especially even if you worked your buttocks off and didn’t get in. But that phenomenon is everywhere. I mean most American actors go to ivy leagues. Everybody should be treated equally, but everybody knows that that rule doesn’t apply to celebrities. But on the other hand, you do get celebrities that want to work hard. So I don’t quite mind their admission being easy if they are willing to put on the work: afterwards.
Marvin: Lowering admission requirements for celebrities is unfair to those students who spare their efforts to enter a college by examination and fair competition. If universities lower admission requirements for celebrities, some students will lose their chances to go to colleges for an unfair reason. And that is not good for carrying out our national policy in fair education. For another, this kind of action will set a negative example for people in that celebrities have a great influence on our society. If universities treat the celebrities as special figures, more and more people will use these similar examples as an excuse to seek some special treatment in various areas, which will abet the corruption in our society.
    A Chinese college student: Many celebrities are not good enough to get into colleges, I mean in terms of academic abilities. After they enter the colleges and universities, they will find it very hard to keep up with their classmates and to follow the teachers and courses there. Actually, in 2010 a Chinese university kicked out an Olympic gold medal winner, because she didn’t get enough credits. I think that it is bad for the celebrity and the college. It is a waste of time and energy of the celebrity and a waste of social resources.

    In recent years, it is not rare to see that many universities have lowered admission requirements in order to enroll celebrities, such as Olympic medalists, well-known entertainment stars as well as award-winning film stars, which has become a controversial topic among students, parents and education experts.
    Many people strongly reject the idea for various reasons. To begin with, they hold that it impairs the spirit of fairness and equality to all in the light of education if those celebrities enjoy privileges over the vast number of students who have shed tears and blood to prepare for the exams when being enrolled into universities. Furthermore, universities are the ivory tower where knowledge triumphs over all, while the celebrities who may excel at their respective fields are not qualified in terms of academic competence. On the contrary, others maintain that it benefits all the parties concerned if the celebrities are admitted into the universities. It is a fair policy in the sense that those celebrities have achieved greatly and distinguished themselves respectively. Therefore, it’s understandable and reasonable for universities to recognize their achievements by lowering academic requirements.
    Weighing the arguments from the two sides, I am inclined to agree with the latter. Firstly, the enrollment of celebrities definitely serves as a boost to the reputation of the universities. The better the universities are known to the public, the more odds for them to attract students with high academic scores. Secondly, the celebrities set positive examples for the fellow students in their own fashion. For instance, it is by no means easy for a sportsman to win a medal in the Olympic Games but for his hard work, persistence, and indomitable spirit. It is beneficial to the students in the long run if equipped with sportsman spirit to overcome the difficulties in their studies, careers and future life. The last but not least, our education policy has long been criticized for laying too much emphasis on study and its biased prejudice against other talents, therefore, by recognizing those celebrities, the universities and the overall society exhibit the broadened inclusiveness towards diversified talents.
    To sum up, I tend to believe that it is of more benefits than harm for universities to lower admission requirements for celebrities. It not only stimulates the universities’ reputation, but also sets role models for the students to learn from and indicates a social recognition for the diversity of talents.
