W: Hi, Stanley! What a coincidence! I was just thinking I might run into you today, since it’s the last day of registration.
M: Laura? Well, I didn’t think I was going to run into you. [1A]I thought you quit your job here because you needed more time to study.
W: Now I decided to forget about trying to graduate early. So, now that I’ve got more time, I thought I’d keep the job. How about you? [2B]I suppose you’re here to register at the last possible second, as usual.
M: Not really. I took your advice for once and registered early. But I do have to solve a problem with my tuition for next term.
W: You mean you didn’t pay it when you signed up for your courses?
M: I did, but they claim I didn’t. They say if I didn’t pay soon, my registration will be cancelled. So, I called. And searching through their computer records, they found the problem.
W: Whose mistake was it?
M: A little of both, I guess. Apparently, [3D]I didn’t put my student ID number on the registration form. One of the clerks approved the form before taking my check, but she didn’t notice the error. So the record of payment couldn’t be entered into the computer.
W: They’re not going to charge you a penalty, are they?
M: No. They have my money, after all. As long as I can show them a driver’s license and my student ID today, we should be able to solve the problem with the records without having to go through the whole process again.
W: Re-registering now would be a real headache.
M: I can’t agree with you more!
