答案
Should College Students Hire Cleaners?
Recently, some college students were reported to hire cleaners to do laundry and cleaning in the dorm. The report has immediately sparked a heated debate. Personally, I believe that such practice should not be encouraged at universities.
Firstly, university students have the capability to do the laundry and therefore do not need a helper. These are the simplest family chores parents teach their children to do as a way to cultivate their independence. Hence, it is a bit ironic for those young adults, who always claim that they are totally independent of their parents, to hire others to do it in this respect.
Secondly, I do not think they have the right to dispose of the money from their parents in this way. Most of the Chinese students are not financially independent, with a large proportion of their living expenses and tuitions covered by their parents. Thus, to pay for the work they are definitely able to do with their parents’ hard-earned money is not justifiable.
Those who hold the opposite view may argue that students hardly have time to do the chores with so many lectures to attend and part-time jobs to do, thus having good reason to hire a cleaner. But I’m afraid that the so-called "busyness" is just an excuse for being reluctant to do the laundry.
In conclusion, hiring cleaners should not be encouraged at universities, whose purpose is to cultivate responsible and independent adults, instead of lazy parasites.
