    These days we often hear about discussions about the widening gap between the rich and the poor. In my opinion, though it is an inevitable phenomenon in the process of reform, the ever-growing contrast between the rich and the poor in China may give rise to lots of problems.
    First of all, it may contribute to social instability. Confucius once said, "A nation is not troubled by poverty, but by disparity. " Unfairness in the distribution of wealth puts the society at stake. Disappointed with their poor life, the disadvantaged have no hope in their future and take a hostile attitude towards the advantaged. Then some of them take risks and commit various crimes, resulting in high crime rate and social unrest.
    Secondly, the rich-poor disparity may lead to inequality of opportunities in education, training, employment, recreation, etc. The poor cannot afford soaring education expenses, while the kids of the rich can study in schools with good teachers and facilities. Inequality in education results in differences in career development, which in turn worsens the situation—the rich become richer and the poor poorer-All in all, it is high time that our government took effective measures to improve the situation. Education is the best cure for poverty. The government should make more investment to ensure equal chances of education. We should create more job opportunities for urban residents and accelerate development in poor regions to narrow the rich-poor division so that all people can enjoy the benefits of our economic reform.

    平等是实现社会收入公平的根本途径，包括机会平等和结果平等两个方面。机会平等就是让所有的社会成员在就业、投资、职务升迁、赚钱赢利等方面获得均等的机会。结果平等指个人的努力与所得的对称，一个人只要有能力，勤奋努力，抓住机会，就可以从低收人者进人高收人者行列。税收是国家调控经济的重要杠杆之一。强化税收的调节作用，对于缩小贫富差距，促进和谐社会的建设有重要意义。
