答案     Whether a person with incurable disease should be kept in the dark or be informed of the truth has long been a controversial problem. It seems that both sides have some reasons.
Some people claim that dying patients have their right to know the truth. The truth plays a critical role in helping the patients summon up the courage to fight against illness. After being informed of illness, the patients can comply with the doctor’s directions more actively and thus recover faster, even if they are on the verge of death, they can make some final decisions and fulfill some aims before they die, so they can leave with less regret.
Other people, on the contrary, advocate keeping them in the dark. They believe that telling them the severe circumstances facing them will bring them to the brink of despair and make them turn loose their hold on recovery. Their disease may be prone to deterioration.
It is clear that neither of the above opinions is without grounds. Personally, I think, with patients who have strong will and courage, we can inform them of the truth. As for the pessimistic ones, we’d better withhold the cruel truth.
